Drug Detection Dogs
Drug Dogs – hand-selected for intense search and strong passive alert. At PSD Kennels, our drug dogs go
through realistic drug detection training. We only use real drugs, not pseudo drug scents: vital for when K-9
officers are to testify their drug dog only hits on illegal substances. Our dogs are taught to detect marijuana,
cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamines.
When a dog locates drugs, it will signal the find with a passive alert - an unassisted sit position. When training
narcotic dogs - informally known as sniffer dogs - we never allow them physical contact with the drugs; the dogs
are trained only to detect the scent of the drugs. We build each dog’s confidence with positive reward-based
training. This ensures our narcotics dogs are always confident and eager in unfamiliar surroundings. To hone
the detection skills of both the dog and the drug dog handler, training is provided for searches in many realistic
environments, including:
- Buildings – A drug dog learns to perform narcotic searches in structures varying in size and complexity
while working through a number of distractions.
- Vehicles – The dogs are taught to search through a variety of vehicle types from small cars to large trucks
to simulate realistic traffic stops and vehicular drug searches.
- Luggage – Narcotics dogs receive extensive training by searching luggage and lockers to detect narcotics.
Bomb Detection Dogs
Bomb Dogs – the quickest, most efficient way to find explosives.
- At PSD Kennels, we put our bomb dogs through rigorous realistic explosive detection training.
- We use real explosive materials in training, not simulated scents.
- Each dog learns to detect the unique scent of different explosive materials. By the end of their
training, a bomb dog will be able to detect approximately 15 different combinations of explosive
materials.
- They are trained to detect trace samples or bulk samples of explosives.
- As passive-alert dogs, our bomb dogs learn to signal the presence of anything suspicious by
assuming an unassisted sit position near a suspected explosives device.
- We painstakingly recreate scenarios and situations a bomb dog is likely to encounter when it goes to
work for real.
- A PSD Kennels' dog will confidently work in airports, public facilities, ports of call, campuses, shopping
centers, and combat zones.
When you’re searching for explosives you want a highly skilled, reliable K-9 partner at your side.
PSD Kennels bomb dogs are prepared for the job, and have been successfully put to the test throughout
the nation and across the globe.
